The “Scholar of the Week” program highlights great students in Baltimore City high schools who are achieving great things. Each nominee must: be a current senior, have a cumulative GPA of at least a 2.5, be actively involved in one or more student organizations or high school athletic programs, demonstrate outstanding leadership and/or contributions to the community. Demonstrate actions that indicate the student is college-bound (i.e. taken college entrance exam(s), applied to college, taken a vigorous college prep class load, etc.), and submit an essay/writing sample describing the importance of a college education.
Each CollegeBound College Advisor nominates one student from their high school as their “Scholar of the Week.” A FOX45 news team travels with CollegeBound to each high school to film various video segments highlighting the student: their academic interests, sports, hobbies, community service and career interests. FOX45 produces and edits a video segment for each scholar. Through this brief introduction, the audience has a chance to learn more about each student, their high school and the CollegeBound college access program. Beginning in March, each Scholar of the Week can look forward to seeing his or her video on the air for one week. The CollegeBound Foundation Scholar of the Week award recognizes one graduating senior from each CollegeBound Foundation-staffed Baltimore City public high school. They are recognized for their outstanding academic accomplishments, leadership and community service.
