COLLEGEBOUND AND THE BALTIMORE CITY PUBLIC SCHOOLS
For Immediate Release
Since CEO Bonnie Copeland accepted the reins of the Baltimore City Public School System
two years ago, its partnership with Baltimore's CollegeBound Foundation has blossomed!
Bonnie's support for new college access initiatives, coupled with long-term encouragement
from the Baltimore City Board of School Commissioners for CollegeBound's program, have
fueled efforts to strengthen college advising in many inner city high schools. Samples
of these initiatives include:
Developing a 13 unit college advising curriculum implemented at 17 high schools.
Developing a college access administrative guide for high school principals.
Presenting college access seminars to high school principals and guidance counselors.
Building a three-quarter of a million dollar portfolio of scholarship funding for Baltimore's youth.
Fundraising a 2 to 1 CollegeBound dollar match for every public dollar committed to providing city students college advising.
Designing NCAA Clearinghouse Workshops for student athletes.
Sponsoring 14 high school based college fairs for several thousand students!
Funding "dozens" of tours to colleges and universities throughout Maryland and its adjoining states.
Designing a K-8 "Introduction to College" kit for teachers with accompanying student motivational tools.
Establishing a college center in every CollegeBound served high school that wants one!
This sampling represents what can occur when the public sector fuels the private sector's
entrepreneurial spirit. Let's take a moment to acknowledge Bonnie Copeland and her
leadership team!
