STRENGTHENING OUR REGION'S WORKFORCE

U.S. DEPARTMENT OF LABOR DESIGNATES THE COLLEGEBOUND FOUNDATION AS A "NATIONAL LEGACY PROGRAM"

For Immediate Release

This year ends the five year Youth Opportunity Project funded by the U.S. Department of Labor. Baltimore was one of thirty-six cities across our nation which participated in this five year effort to reengage out-of-school youth-primarily high school drop-outs with educational opportunities.

Working in partnership with Baltimore's Office for Employment Development, The CollegeBound Foundation provided access to college for young adults who earned their GED after enrolling in the Youth Opportunity Project.

The U.S. Department of Labor has identified four programs that will represent the legacy of this thirty-six city project. CollegeBound's College Access Program was chosen as a model which should be sustained due to its success in placing out-of-school youth into college.

The U.S. Labor Department recognizes that urban cities must provide expanded college access to low-income communities which historically have not been afforded access to college information and college funding. CollegeBound's recognition as a "National Legacy Program" is acknowledged on behalf of the many children whom CollegeBound is determined to help realize their dreams of a college education.
