Claudia Hernandez-Fujigaki

Director of Accounting and Human Resources

Claudia is a certified public accountant with a bachelor’s degree in accounting from San Luis Potosi University in Mexico. She grew up in the neighboring country and came to the United States in 2000. Prior to her migration, she was an accountant and auditor in the private sector for eight years.

She has over ten years of experience serving as Director of Finance and Controller for different organizations in the nonprofit sector. She held the Controller’s position at Lowell School, an independent school located in NW Washington, for a number of years. Previously, she was Director of Finance at the American Academy of Optometry, a professional group and credentialing organization with members in 40 countries.

A member of the American Institute of CPAs and the Maryland
Society of CPAs, Claudia says the most rewarding part of working in the nonprofit sector is knowing that her accounting skills are contributing to a worthy cause.

She is a volunteer interpreter in Baltimore, facilitating communication between lawyers and undocumented Central American parents. When she is not working with numbers, she enjoys playing Sudoku, reading, travelling the world, and experimenting with different ethnic foods.

Claudia lives in Montgomery County with her husband and stays busy spending time with their children and their two dogs.
