Arushi Aneja was born in Maryland, raised in India and came back to Baltimore in middle school. After graduating from high school in 2015, she went to University of Maryland, Baltimore County where she pursued dual degrees – B.A. in Geography and Environmental Studies and a B.A. in Global Studies – along with a minor in Spanish. While at UMBC, she worked at the Financial Aid Office as a Front Office Assistant and interned with Parks and People Foundation as an Environmental Literacy Counselor. Both experiences stressed the need to increase access to education. After graduating from UMBC, she went on to work as a Financial Aid Counselor at Goucher College and an Immigrant Integration Specialist at AmeriCorps. She hopes that her background in financial aid and higher education will prove to be an asset to her students as they navigate the complexities of college together. In the future, she would like to pursue a Master’s in Education Policy with a certificate in Data Science to better predict and eliminate factors that increase students’ vulnerabilities and help them succeed.
