A’mari is originally from Waldorf, Maryland. She is an alumna of A Better Chance, a nonprofit scholarship program that increases access for students of color to attend high-achieving schools across the U.S. Through the program, she graduated from Andover High School in Andover, Massachusetts.
She earned her B.A. in Global Communications, with minors in Socio-Cultural Anthropology and Gender Studies, from The American University of Paris (AUP). While at AUP, she founded and served as president of a student-run organization with a mission to educate, advocate, and represent the Black student population on campus. A’mari also created an internship position where she advised school leadership on issues affecting students of color and advocated for greater equity and inclusivity for current and prospective students. These experiences deepened her commitment to community building and expanding access to diverse higher education pathways for students. She later attended Merrimack College, where she obtained her Master of Education in Community Engagement. Since then, A’mari has worked primarily in the nonprofit sector. She joins CollegeBound from MERIT Health Leadership Academy and she is eager to continue her work at the newly merged MERIT Health Leadership Academy at CollegeBound. In her new role, A’mari hopes to bring her commitment to higher education and her experience to empower Baltimore City youth to become health professionals who advance healthcare access and awareness for all.
