MERIT Health Leadership Academy at CollegeBound is a Saturday and summer honors program for Baltimore City public high school students interested in becoming health professionals, change agents, and college graduates. MERIT Scholars are provided with opportunities to explore pathways within healthcare and medical professions, join and build community, and prepare for college and their future. Through Saturday programming and summer internships, scholars gain hands-on experiences, connect with healthcare professionals, strengthen their STEM and leadership skills, received personalized academic and college support, and participate in paid summer internships. Together, these experiences help MERIT Scholars build confidence, skills, and connections to thrive as future health professionals and leaders.

Scholars begin their MERIT journey in the spring of sophomore year and continue until senior year. To apply, the student must be a current sophomore at a Baltimore City public high school, hold a 3.0 or higher unweighted GPA, and have an interest in becoming a healthcare or medical professional.

OUR PROGRAM

The MERIT Health Leadership Academy at CollegeBound is a comprehensive academic and career mentorship program supporting high school students from underrepresented backgrounds who aspire to have careers in health.

As an Out-of-School Time program, MERIT provides Saturday College Prep Classes, Professional Internships, College Admissions Guidance, and Longitudinal Mentorship, empowering them with additional opportunities and resources. 

SATURDAY CLASSES

MERIT at CollegeBound’s comprehensive, rigorous STEM programming supports scholars to achieve at the highest levels of success, providing a variety of classes that solidify foundational math and science skills, prepare students for the SAT, and explore community health issues.

PROFESSIONAL INTERNSHIPS

 Each summer, MERIT Scholars intern in hospitals, research labs, and community health settings, providing professional experience and hands-on learning opportunities.

COLLEGE ADVISING

From leading college tours to providing college application support, MERIT supports scholars to succeed in college and beyond. Last year, MERIT Scholars collectively earned $10.4 million in scholarships

LONG-TERM MENTORING

From high school to college and beyond, MERIT fosters meaningful relationships between scholars, team members, STEM professionals, and community health leaders, creating networks of support and opportunity.
