¡Adelante Latina! at CollegeBound

The CollegeBound Foundation and ¡Adelante Latina! have merged! The combined program, launching in time for the fall 2025 school year, is called ¡Adelante Latina! at CollegeBound.

Founded in 2013 by Leonor Blum, ¡Adelante Latina! is a free, after-school academic enrichment and college access program designed to help Latina high school students in Baltimore City overcome the socioeconomic and academic barriers they face in pursuing higher education. For more than thirty five years, CollegeBound has empowered thousands of low-income and first-generation students from Baltimore City to achieve their dream of attending college. As a part of the CollegeBound Foundation, ¡Adelante Latina! at CollegeBound will continue its core offerings, including academic preparation, after-school tutoring, college readiness, and college counseling, while expanding its reach and impact.

Information sessions to recruit interested freshmen students are held at Baltimore City Public Schools in the spring. Students should contact their guidance office for details on session dates and to express their interest.

For Our High School Students

¡Adelante Latina! at CollegeBound starts in sophomore year of high school. The program meets twice a week after school from September to May at the CollegeBound offices in the Remington neighborhood of Baltimore City. Students also attend a week-long overnight summer camp at Notre Dame of Maryland University.

Our program includes:

  • Dynamic group lessons with certified teachers focused on reading comprehension, writing, grammar, and vocabulary.
  • One-on-one sessions with a dedicated tutor who provides academic guidance and assistance with ¡Adelante Latina! assignments.
  • Access to individualized tutoring in math, science, and SAT prep.
  • A senior curriculum focused on the college application process, essay writing, test taking. and financial planning.
  • Transportation to and from the program, and snacks and a hot meal at every session.
  • Weekly check-ins on academic performance and college access are conducted by a high school-based College Access Program Specialist. This person also assists with securing paid summer internships.
  • $3,000 scholarship upon completion of the high school program and opportunities for additional scholarships.

For Our College Students

Graduates of our high school program are members of the College Completion Program (CCP), a multi-year support network made up of campus liaisons, professional mentors, and CollegeBound advisors who are dedicated to helping Baltimore City public school graduates get through college successfully.

For Our Parents

We understand the importance of family support in the college journey. To ensure we stay connected to our families, we have an Alumnae & Family Outreach Coordinator. Programming for parents includes a monthly workshop on navigating the complexities of the U.S. education system and other topics like financial literacy and scholarship opportunities.

Get Involved

There are many ways you can support our students:

  • Volunteer: We’re always looking for long-term and substitute tutors to assist students with ¡Adelante Latina! assignments (reading, writing, grammar, and vocabulary) on Tuesdays or Thursdays from 4-6pm. Ideally, tutors work with the same student for three years, from her sophomore year to her high school graduation.
  • Corporate Engagement: Businesses can make a lasting impact by offering internships, mentorships, career-building workshops, or sponsorships. If you’d like to host students, present to them, or offer internship opportunities, we’d love to hear from you.
  • Support Us: We rely on the generosity of donors, volunteers, and community partners to continue our mission. Whether through in-kind donations, sponsorships, or hosting an event, your support makes a huge difference. Donate to ¡Adelante Latina! at CollegeBound online.
