Madison Coan

Madison was born in Alexandria, Virginia but moved to Birmingham, Alabama at age 7. Her lifelong love of art and artmaking led her to begin interning with the Birmingham Museum of Art’s Mural Outreach Program as a high school student. It was there she found a zeal for working with students and connecting them with new opportunities and ways of seeing. This experience also inspired her to attend an art college and she moved to Baltimore to attend the Maryland Institute College of Art where she earned her BFA in Fiber Art and MFA in Art Education. After graduation, Madison worked as an artist, performer, puppeteer and helped to found and run an artist collective and venue, Holy Underground. During this time, she began to develop artist workshops which reawakened her love of working with students. This, combined with her own positive experience as a college student, led her to seek a career in college admissions. She returned to her alma matter, this time as an admission counselor, where she worked for 6 years as MICA’s eventual Assistant Director of First Year Admission. She is confident that her background in both classroom and higher education will be beneficial to both the College Completion Team and the students she works with. Madison is passionate about helping students gain and retain access to everything they need for a successful and fulfilling college career.
