Xiomara Strayhorn

Xiomara exemplifies true representation of academic excellence, commitment to diversity and equity, and community leadership as a distinct Western Dove. Xiomara’s roots spread from Georgia, Norway, and Baltimore, where she continuously shares her experiences and growth. Xiomara’s openness to relocate to Norway proves her resiliency and desire to cultivate and learn about Norwegian culture. Xiomara understands the importance of using her life-learned experiences in and out of the classroom. She currently maintains a GPA of 4.47. Throughout her tenure in high school, she has participated in a series of activism and community service projects such as Youth Organizer for No Boundaries Youth Organization, Enoch Pratt Library Teen Council, Co-leader for Creative Alliance and Summer Fellow for Baltimore Youth Film Arts Program. Xiomara’s interest in STEM allowed her to present her research in Paris, France, with Baltimore Underground Science Space amongst students expanding from 20 countries. Xiomara not only serves her community but is also heavily involved in school. Xiomara has served as Western High School Volleyball Team Captain, a member of Western’s Environmental Club, and Under Armour Athletic Leadership. Xiomara is passionate about STEM and educating her community about its importance after her college journey. She hopes to create a global classroom to help educators teach STEM-related topics in engaging ways and research how to make human-computer interactions nonbiased. Xiomara has a desire to create an inclusive and diverse community in STEM.
